On Wednesday 23rd it was my birthday.  We mad bracelets and we put coloured beads on them.  there are new benches at our base in Clash Wood.  Callum

I liked Forest School because we went bug hunting and we had hot chocolate.  After that we listened to a story.  We made bracelets after that.  It was Callum’s birthday and we sang a song to him, he had a cake.  And we rated how good forest school was from one to five.  I rated five because it is really fun.  Rowen

Garden Get Together 19th September

Early on a fresh, Saturday morning an eager bunch of gardeners arrived complete with wellies and spades ready for the mammoth task ahead.

garden 1Once over the initial shock the group got to work.  Friendly banter helped ease the back-ache. Watch those nails Mrs. Smith!

We wrestled with weeds and with the wheelbarrow! We dug, pulled and scraped at the soil. We tugged and pinned the ‘teram’ ready for the fresh soil whilst others made a welcome cup of tea complete with shortbread.

garden2Some of the tyres are now ready for planting spring bulbs’ adding colour and life to our garden.

garden4

A big thank you to all who gave up their time-parents, pupils and teachers.

The gardening group meets each Friday at 1.30 as part of citizenship activities. They would welcome help or gifts of plants or materials which they could use in their project.

This week we visited P1/2 to find out what they have been doing in class.  In maths the P1s have been learning to use numbers to 10 and the P2s have been learning to use numbers up to 20.  For topic work they have been doing Katie Morag and the two grandmas and for art they have painted portraits.

While we were in the class they were doing lots of fun activities like numbers in goo!!

The children in the class told us their favourite things about Tarradale.  Janey said she likes morning break and Ross said he likes Golden Time and art.

P1/2s special wall in the corridor is called ‘Tiddlers’  (it’s about a small fish).

We have been working on our Welcoming for the past few weeks. We want to be a Welcoming school. Things that we would like to do are, holding or opening the door for people saying “good morning” to our teachers and other new people that come in to our school, and helping new pupils and visitors who get lost. We are going to do this for a while and each week we will see if we are improving on our Welcoming!!!!  By Kelsey R and Emily

At Forest School we made journey sticks.  Journey sticks are sticks with things tied to them from our journey.  We also made hot chocolate and ate biscuits.  I loved making areas to play in and picking blueberries.  Chrissy

At Forest School we were making hot chocolate in a very outdoor way.  Before we made it, Sean, Ian and me were ahead of the others so we went to a place that Sean likes to call paradise.  On our way we even saw a deer and a huge mushroom.  We had our hot chocolate then played a game where someone was blindfolded and the rest had to be very quiet and try to touch the person who was blindfolded.  The blindfolded person then had to guess who had touched them.  Callum

I had a lot of fun at Forest School.  My favourite part was when we had hot chocolate.  We were very surprised when there were new benches made out of logs at the base.  When we came back it was very hot.  Nathan

Kelsey and Emily from the ICT Citizenship Group have been out and about the school interviewing.  This week they chose to have a chat with some of the new Primary 1 pupils to find out their first impressions of life at school!

“On the first day I felt a little nervous and excited.  I think the school is big but my classroom is not too big.  It is colourful.  I lkie the playground.  It is huge and it’s good fun for playing tag and hide and seek.  Even though I miss Nursery, I think school is better.”  Fin

“On my first day at school I felt a wee bit nervous but afterwards I thought it was really fun.  I like the playground because it is good for playing duck, duck, goose.  I like work in the class but I am not too sure that I like it that much yet.”  Kai

“At school I get to do letters, drawing, painting and games.  I think school is awesome!  Outside I like to play hide and seek and play in the sandpit.”  Hollie

“I like spelling on the computer and PE.  Outside I lkie playing with my buddy and my friends.”  Corey

IMG_1540On Friday 11th September we had a visit from Margaret and John Rose who are helping to raise money for a hospital and school in Pakistan.  So far, John and Margaret have raised £19 000 to help with building costs for the hopsital-  and they’ve managed to do that in one year!!  Margaret and John have visited Pakistan twice and they showed us photographs of their trip.  Some of the pupils and teachers also got to try on some traditional Pakistani clothes.  Here at Tarradale, we are hoping to help Margaret and John raise some more money.  What suggestions do you have for how we could do this?

Boules 010boules 113

As part of their topic on Europe, P5/6 have been learning about France.  Last week they learned how to play Boules and then wrote instructions on how to play the game.  What do you think of Daniel and Matthew’s instructions?

How to play Boules

This set of instructions will tell you how to play boules which were invented in France. A lot of people play boules in France. It’s a very popular in France and it is very fun. The aim of the game is to get your boules closer to the cochonet than the other team’s boules.

Equipment

Boules

Chalk or hoop

Grassy area

Cochonet

Steps:

  1. Organise the two teams with either 2or3 people in each team.

  2. Flip a coin to see who goes first.

  3. The team that won the toss draw the circle or place the hoop

  4. Next roll the cochonet around 4 – 8 meters..

  5. Now you bowl your first boules.

  6. Now the second team roll their first boules.

  7. The team that has their boules the closest is said to be “ holding the point “.

  8. The team that’s not the closest keeps rolling until closer.

  9. When all boules are bowled you count how many of the other teams boules are closer. It is a point for every boules that is closer to the cochonet than the other teams closest boules.

  10. it is first to 13 points or whatever you make up

Thank you for reading these instructions hopeful you know how to play boules.

Matthew P5/6

How To Play Boules

Boules is a very popular game in France, it was first played in the south of France  in 1907. Today it is mostly played the towns and villages of France.

 Equipment

Chalk (or hoop)

Grassy area (or sand)

Boules (or heavy balls)

Cochonnet

Two teams of two or three people

Steps

  1. Toss a coin to decide which team rolls the cochonnet and the first boule.

  2. The team that wins the toss takes the cochonnet and rolls it, then they roll their first boule.

  3. The second team rolls their boules until they get one of their boules closer than the first team.

  4. The team that has one of their boules closest to the cochonnet is holding the point or wins if both teams have rolled all of their boules.

  5. The team that wins gets one point for every boule closer to the cochonnet than the other team.

  6. The first team to 13 points wins.

In France boules is usually played on a hard kind of sand.
