“Our homework was to make a Viking longship.”  Megan

“In reading we have been learning about Viking Gods.  We have also been learning about myths and legends.  We really enjoyed when we had to illustrate the pictures that went along with the story.”  Megan and Laura

Kelsey and Robert from the ICT Group interviewed Mr Ferguson.

What kind of things do you do around the school?

I open the school in the morning, I supervise in the playground at playtime and lunch time.  I pick up litter and check that the there are hand towels in all the toilets.  These are just some of the things I do.

What time do you start and finish work?

I’m at school for about 7.30am each morning.  I usually finsih about 5 o’clock but I often have to come back to school to open and close it for groups who are using the school in the evening.

Have you ever been a janitor before?

Yes, I used to work at Dingwall Academy.

What is good about being a janitor?

You’re kept going all the time.  Seeing the children growing up.

What is the worst part of your job?

When I have to take thinks out of the toilet and sinks that shouldn’t be there.  When people leave the taps running and flood the place.

What’s your favourite duty?

I like playground duty because you get a laugh with the kids.

On Thursday and Friday Paula and Emma from Highland Council’s Waste Management Department came to talk to all the classes about reducing, reusing and recycling.  Emma and Paula showed us pictures and told us lots of information.  We got to play a really fun quiz and then we all played a great game.  All the classes found Paula and Emma’s visit really interesting and informative.

What did you learn?
