Last Thursday afternoon we held an Open Afternoon for our mums and dads.  We did short presentations about our topics and some of us even dressed up!  Then we invited them to play some of our active learning games in maths and language.  To round off the afternoon we served teas, coffees and home baking, which went down a treat!

There was a huge turn out and we would thank everyone for their support.

The P4s were very fortunate to welcome Lilian to their class. After getting very comfortable on the floor, Lilian told us an old Scottish story using old Scots language. At the beginning we were not sure what she was talking about, but once we got the hang of it, we enjoyed every minute!
Afterwards, we played a game and made up our own story using some olf Scots words. We had great fun. Thank you Lilian!

Each week Forest School goes to a local wood where we have a ‘base’ also know as our outdoor classroom.  We have chosen a base in an area not normally accessible by the general public, so we can create activities that will not be disturbed if left at the base.

This week we walked to the base.  We then had to hunt for ‘nuts’ (broadbeans) which had been hidden last week.  This was to imitate squirrels hoarding food for winter.  Not many nuts were found!

We also made picture frames from thin branches lashed together.  Look out next week for more photographs of our Forest School activities.

On 13th and 20th November, Sandi Beck from Action for Mountain Woodlands came to visit us in Primary 5. She came to tell us about the Cairngorm National Park as part of our project. On the first day Sandi showed us lots of pictures and told us about the animals and plants that you can find in the Cairngorm National Park. The second time she came, we got to plant dwarf birch saplings. We are going to look after these at school and then next spring we will take them to Cairngorm Mountain to plant them. We had great fun with Sandi and she left us with a pencil and a T shirt each.

On Wednesday 19th November two of the staff from Extreme Dream Climbing Wall (Aviemore) came to give us training on how to use our new climbing wall.  They also brought along a mobile climbing wall and most of the classes got a shot on it.  Mrs Cooke (P5/6) had a go too and nearly managed to reach the top!

Here’s what we thought of the day:

“It was really scary at the top and jumping down was like falling from a tree.  I was proud of myself when I reached the top.”  Drew M P4

“I’ve never been on a climbing wall before because I’m scared of heights – it was a great expereince for me.”  Lorna C P7

“The climbing wall was really excellent and it was kind of hard to get to the top.”  Shane P5

I was soooo excited and it was fun, fun, fun!”  Josh M P4

“I’ve been on one before but that was amazing.”  Jordan M P7

I thought it was really fun.  Ididn’t get all the way up but I got half way up.”  Campbell P5

“I was as high as a kite when I made it to the top.”  Erin M P7

I almost reached the top and it was so cool I would love doing this every day.  I was great at helping everybody ready for the clim.”  Robbie P4

Even though I am scared of heights when I got up there I loved every second of it!!!!”  Iona A P7

Climbing Wall

 By Alasdair R & Josh M

The Climbing Wall

Our new climbing wall is at the back of the school.  It is brightly coloured and really stands out.  It is used by pupils of all ages.  We say a big thanks to Ex Dream who built it.  Here’s what some of the pupils at Tarradale think of it:

“It’s brilliant!” Nathan H

“It’s fun to play on.” Kyle H

“I think it’s fun and cool.”  Lauren M

“It’s fun and safe”  David S

“The wall is challenging and fun.”  Liam C and Neil G

What have Primary 5 been up to?
